Today, May 15, is designated as the International Day of Families by the United Nations. This year’s theme is ‘Family-Oriented Policies for Sustainable Development: Towards the Second World Summit for Social Development’.
As is the case annually, Seychelles joins the global community to celebrate the day recognising families as vital to sustainable progress. This theme highlights the critical role of family-focused policies in advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, addressing global challenges like technological transformation, demographic shifts, urbanisation, migration and climate change.
Seychelles acknowledges the challenges families face due to economic difficulties, social issues, and global megatrends. The country commits to implementing policies that support family units, promoting stability and inclusion. Aligning with the objectives of the summit of poverty reduction, employment opportunities, and social integration, Seychelles seeks to enable families to contribute to sustainable development.
