Constitution Day celebrated nationwide on three islands
Text by Vidya Gappy (Mahé) & Mandy Bertin (Praslin/La Digue)
Seychelles commemorated the 33rd anniversary of Constitution Day yesterday with celebrations held on the three main islands – Mahé, Praslin, and La Digue. The events brought together citizens, government officials, youth representatives, and members of the diplomatic community to honour the nation’s supreme law and democratic values.
The Constitution, as the highest law of Seychelles, serves as the cornerstone of the nation. Its Preamble reflects the aspirations, values, and principles that define Seychellois identity and guide progress as a democratic and sovereign republic. Constitution Day is a reminder of the collective responsibility to preserve and pass on these ideals to future generations, ensuring they continue to inspire and guide the nation.
