Purple light shines for Alzheimer’s awareness

World Alzheimer’s Day, observed annually on September 21, is dedicated to raising awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. It highlights the challenges faced by those living with the condition and their caregivers, while promoting early detection and support. In 2026, the day falls within World Alzheimer’s Month, observed throughout September under the theme ‘The earlier you know the more you can do’.

Seychelles joined the global commemoration with a symbolic ceremony at the Mayor’s Office in Victoria. The Alzheimer’s Association of Seychelles lit the building in purple – a colour recognised worldwide as a symbol of dignity, strength, and solidarity with those affected. The illumination will continue for three nights.
