Bel Ombre ice plant opens to support local fishers

The Bel Ombre fishing community is set to benefit from improved access to ice following the official opening of a new ice plant at the Bel Ombre fishing port yesterday afternoon.

The facility was donated by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) through the Reef Fish Project, with support from the Government of Japan. It is expected to help fishers preserve the freshness and quality of their catches while strengthening their livelihoods.
