The new high commissioner of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Seychelles, Yusuf Yunusa, presented his credentials to President Wavel Ramkalawan at State House yesterday morning.

HC Yunusa presented his credentials in the presence of the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Sylvestre Radegonde.

He is the 10th Nigerian high commissioner to be accredited to the Republic of Seychelles.

Speaking to the press after his meeting with the president, HC Yunusa said that they discussed on the continued cooperation between Nigeria and Seychelles as well as other areas of cooperation which he will discuss with the president of his country, Muhammadu Buhari.

He described relations between Nigeria and Seychelles as very cordial.

“If it was not cordial I would not have come. But because of the cordiality, that’s why I have come. The area of cooperation will continue,” he added.

He stated that, as everybody, all over the world, are fighting corruption, his country will also continue to work with Seychelles in this regard.

“If corruption is something that we cannot succumb to, we will continue our fight. We assured Mr President and Mr President assured us. So there’ll be no going back on the issue of corruption. We are going to deal with anybody found to be corrupt and we are not going to take it lightly until our people become very safe and better,” HC Yunusa said.

Following his discussion with the President, HC Yunusa paid a courtesy call on Vice-President Ahmed Afif.

Apart from Seychelles, HC Yunusa is also accredited to the Republic of Somalia and to the Republic of Kenya, where he will be based in the capital, Nairobi.

He also represents his country at the United Nations (UN) and oversees habitat and environment at the organisation.

HC Yunusa replaces Sheidu Omeiza Momoh who was accredited to Seychelles on March 20, 2018.

Nigeria and Seychelles established diplomatic relations on January 28, 1977.
