Darts - Marc Pouponneau wins President’s Cup |03 November 2021

Marc Pouponneau enjoyed a sensational weekend as he was crowned the President’s Cup winner on Saturday inside the Happy Youth Club darts room.

To claim the title, Pouponneau had to face off the on-form Nichol Esparon and finally overcome him.

Esparon had entered the President’s Cup with three consecutive wins in singles competitions ‒ the National singles, Curtain-raiser singles and Association singles ‒ and he surely was the man all the other 15 players wanted to beat.

In the final, the finalists had to battle to be the first to win nine games and in the end Pouponneau triumphed 9-6 to put an end to Esparon’s winning streak.

Pouponneau had beaten doubles partner Edmond Azemia 5-1 in the quarterfinal and then dispatched Reuben Port-Louis 7-4 in the semis.

As for losing finalist Esparon, he eliminated Bernard Berlouis on a 5-2 score in the quarterfinal before edging Terrance Hallock 7-6 in the other last-four match.

In the third place play-of match, Terrance Hallock beat Reuben Port-Louis 7-4.

Hallock was in fine form on Saturday as he scored the highest finish of 180 three times and also had a bull finish of 121.

As for Jack Micock, he had a simple finish of 107.

Saturday’s competition was played on a round-robin format with the top eight players progressing to the knockout stage.
