The Chinese embassy in Seychelles has donated R100,000 to the President’s Village in Port Glaud.

The money will be used for tiling works in two of the village’s residential homes.

It was the Chinese ambassador to Seychelles, Guo Wei, who presented a cheque for that amount to the chief executive of the National Council for Children (NCC), Yasmine Umarji, in a small ceremony held yesterday afternoon at the village.

Present were the director of the village, Brigitte Balette, staff and children and other representatives from the Chinese embassy.

Apart from presenting the cheque, Ambassador Guo also presented some gifts for the children. They included some educational materials, water bottles, money purses and five volley balls.

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Guo said that the embassy was very happy and proud to have assisted the village in improving the living conditions of the children.

She added that by improving their living conditions, it will encourage them to do better in their studies so that they can be useful to society and also get to help others at the same time.

Ambassador Guo commended the staff for maintaining the village well and also took the opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

On behalf of NCC, the village and staff and fellow residents, a student from the Anse Boileau secondary school who resides at the village thanked the Chinese embassy through Ambassador Guo for the generous donation.

She stated that they will take good care of what have been given to them so that they can last for several years to come.

She further wished that the long relationship between Seychelles and China continues.
