CWS reacts to FTC survey results |10 February 2022
Cable and Wireless (Seychelles) Limited (CWS) has reacted to the Fair Trading Commission’s (FTC) Telecom Survey results and analysis.
In a press release, CWS writes:
“The survey came at an opportune time, giving CWS the chance to outline some of the recent changes it implemented over the third and fourth quarters of 2021. These changes were part of the company strategy to align with its customers’ change in usage and the new dynamic brought by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“CWS remains determined to provide the best service to its customers. Recently, the company reviewed its mobile postpaid offers by doubling data allowances on the Smart Plus packages, where customers enjoy greater value for the same price. For example, Smart Plan at R149 offered 1GB data allowance, 150 minutes of local calls and 50 local SMS, now customers are being offered 2GB data allowance, 300 minutes of local calls and 300 local SMS at the same price.
“CWS is issuing new packages and boosters that fit within our customers’ budget, in the second half of 2021, CWS rolled out the 1-day and 2-day unlimited internet boosters for Broadband users and the 1-day unlimited voice call booster at R39 for its prepaid customers.
“CWS is involved in an ongoing negotiation when it comes to TV content as retaining content remains challenging for many reasons which include the fact that Seychelles is a small market, exclusivity held by other suppliers…
“It is good to note that CWS remains involved and engaged in the community as the brand that cares. During the mid-week of January 2022, when the Ministry of Education announced the first day of school, CWS was the sole service provider that offered its customers’ free internet allowance as a way of helping the parents with online schooling. All customers on Fixed Broadband were offered 25GB and those on Wireless Broadband received 15GB. During the same period, the company launched a 2-week campaign offering a 100% bonus on all its services.
“CWS remains committed to working with the government and will be taking the proposed recommendations into consideration. CWS is currently looking to add new mobile sites to ease the coverage gap, and acquiring new sites is getting more difficult day by day. CWS is working on new initiatives to improve its deliverables in all aspects, this includes the continuation of rolling out the Fibre to the Home (FTTH), which has significantly improved the quality and reliability of services for both TV and fixed broadband coverage. Today, we are proud to confirm that La Digue is 100% connected to FFTH, Praslin is fully fibre covered with over 75% of customers connected and the work is progressing well to connect the remaining customers as well as the work on Mahé.”
