Presently in the country for their annual retreat, the United Nations Country Team on Thursday paid a courtesy call on President Wavel Ramkalawan at State House where the discussion was mainly based on other areas in need of further support from the United Nations.

Led by United Nations regional coordinator Christine Umutoni, the team engaged with the highest authorities – the President – essentially to understand what are the key opportunities, challenges and vision of the country, and most importantly on how the United Nations can bring its support.

Mrs Umutoni said they chose Seychelles for their annual retreat as a sign of solidarity to show that the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) embraces the opening of the border and also the way the Seychelles government has managed the Covid-19 pandemic.

She noted that apart from looking at past and plan future work, Thursday’s meeting with President Ramkalawan was also to discuss on continuous support for the country to better recover forward and continue on the growth to sustainable development to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) since the Covid-19 pandemic caused a lot of disruptions.

This, Mrs Umutoni said, will help the country to continue working on economic transformation, sustainable tourism, human capital development, social sectors and also other areas so that it can revive better and continue to be vibrant.
