Today, June 9, 2022, Russia celebrates 350 years since Peter the Great, founder of the Russian Empire, was born in 1672.

He occupies a remarkable place in Russian history.

It was Peter who turned Russia into a major globalpower.

Among his numerous accomplishments are radical reforms of the government, economy and social life of the country.

He is famous for founding the city of St. Petersburg and establishment of the Russian fleet, both navy and merchant.

Peter was not only an outstanding political and military leader, but also a prominent diplomat, who opened Russia to the world.
