Mrs Tang presents her credentials to President Ramkalawan

Philippines ambassador to Seychelles, Charlette G. Tang, presented her credentials to President Wavel Ramkalawan yesterday morning at State House.

In the discussion following the ceremony, President Ramkalawan and Mrs Tang talked about how to enhance the countries’ bilateral relations, which this year will be in its 36th year.

They also addressed other issues such as the Covid-19 pandemic, which she said affected certain agreements, and had to be put on hold.

“We hope to pick up where we left off during the pandemic and improve relations in all aspects,” she told the local media.

Among those put on hold were a labour agreement and a cultural agreement, which Mrs Tang said would give more institutional framework for cooperation in the cultural and art scenes, such as exchange of ideas, and visits to museums, among others.

Following her meeting with the president, the new ambassador also called on Vice- President Ahmed Afif.

Other than Seychelles she will be accredited to 11 other African countries under the embassy’s jurisdiction, namely Burundi, Comoros, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Malawi, Rwanda, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.

Her previous foreign assignments included as the Philippines consul general in Guangzhou, China; minister and consul general at the Philippines embassy in The Hague, The Netherlands, and earlier, as a junior officer at the Philippines embassy in Beijing, China.
