The new German ambassador to Seychelles, Sebastian Groth, presented his credentials to President Wavel Ramkalawan yesterday morning at State House.

Speaking to the local media shortly after, he said he was honoured to be the ambassador of Germany to the beautiful Seychelles and his time with the president was very fruitful.

“We did have an exchange of financial relations, geo-political developments, environment projects and also a little bit about the German tourism in Seychelles and how much the Germans love this beautiful country,” he said.

He added that during his time as ambassador he will be working on strengthening the co-operation between the German police authorities and that of Seychelles as well as the cultural co-operation.

“We have a little bit of project money from Germany, which we would like to invest in a cultural project to do something with artist probably in the fields of film or music,” he said.

Ambassador Groth also revealed that his country was already collaborating with Seychelles on a major regional project concerning environmental protection that starts in Kenya and goes all the way down to Mozambique.

During his accreditation visit to State House, Mr Groth also met with Vice-President Ahmed Afif and during his stay in the country, he will be meeting with other local dignitaries, including the secretary general of the Seychelles Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the chief executive of the Citizens Engagement Platform, Seychelles.

Mr Groth, who is married and a father of two, joined the Federal Foreign office in 2000 and has since worked with the German embassy in Nairobi, the German embassy in Paris as well as in his country’s capital, Berlin.
