‘Sesel Lir Avek Mwan’ workshop highlights the importance of early childhood literacy |24 March 2025

A new survey focused on the importance of early childhood reading has concluded that Seychellois parents do not read to children aged 0-5 years often enough, with only 1 in 5 parents reading to their young children on a daily basis.
The findings of the Home Literacy Survey, conducted by the Education Socio-Economic Research Institute (ESERI) of the University of Seychelles (UniSey), with input from members of the Seychelles Association of Retired Education Professionals (Sarep), were disclosed during a workshop organised by the latter held on Thursday morning at Laila Resort, Anse Royale.
The survey explored literacy habits among families with young children, and allowed researchers to ascertain the challenges and gaps in early childhood reading in Seychelles.
