Residents of La Digue can now follow their dialysis treatment on the island now that a new haemodialysis unit has been officially opened at the St Mary’s hospital.

This represents a new chapter in bringing quality and accessible renal care closer to the La Digue  community.

The official opening was held yesterday at the hospital in the presence of President Wavel Ramkalawan; Minister for Health, Peggy Vidot; Amsa President Abdullah Ajmal; elected member of the National Assembly for La Digue, Rocky Uranie; chief executive of the Health Care Agency, Dr Danny Louange; high officials from the health ministry; La Digue health council; haemodialysis patients and other guests.

In his opening address, Dr Louange said the opening of this unit marks the realisation of a shared vision, ensuring that every resident of La Digue can receive essential health care without leaving their comfort and the support of the community.
