Animal lovers deplore death of cats and dogs in town

 

Non-governmental organisations advocating for animal rights along with many people opposed to any form of cruelty to animals, took to social media recently to express their concerns over the number of dogs and other animals, which they claim are falling victims to the deratisation campaign going on in Victoria and its surrounding areas, since last Friday.

The intensive campaign is a collaboration between the Public Health Authority, the Office of the Mayor of Victoria, the department of Agriculture, the Landscape and Waste Management Agency (LWMA), the Pest Control Association Seychelles (PECAS) and PESTEA, and it involves the placement of poisons in various hotspots where the rodents breed. This method was chosen as opposed to traps as the latter was considered to be more expensive.

Speaking to Seychelles NATION, Sheila Sicobo from the Providence-based Seychelles Pet Haven, said the use of poison has led to the death of other animals instead of just the rodents.
