The Seychelles National Youth Assembly inaugurated its 20th cohort during a ceremony on Saturday at the Eden Bleu Hotel.
The new members took their oath in the presence of the Head of State, President Wavel Ramkalawan; the Minister for Youth, Sports and Family, Marie-Celine Zialor; Minister for Education, Dr Justin Valentin; principal secretary for Youth and Sports, Ralph Jean-Louis; and chief executive of the Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC), Albert Duncan.
In her opening address Minister Zialor thanked the 19th cohort for its hard work during the one-year tenure and wished the members continued participation in Seychelles’ development and that of young people.
“To the new cohort good luck and know that you can depend on us to guide and hold your hands in this journey,” she said.
The 24-member team is being led by 16-year-old Liam D’Unienville from the Seychelles Tourism Academy (STA). Liam is not new to the assembly as he was an ordinary member in the 18th cohort. In his remarks, Liam noted the new assembly’s mandate is to elevate its stature into a nationally recognised and respected youth leadership programme and ensure that it represents all young people in the country.
