SIAD hosts third art bazaar

• Celebrating creativity, talent and community engagement

The Seychelles Institute of Art and Design (SIAD) hosted its third Art Bazaar on Friday  June 13, 2025, an event that continues to grow in significance as a vibrant celebration of students’ creativity, craftsmanship, and entrepreneurial spirit.

Held on the institute’s premises, the bazaar provided a unique platform for learners to showcase and sell their original works to the public, at affordable prices.

A diverse range of handcrafted items were on display and available for purchase, including textile designs, garments, printed T-shirts, fine art paintings, 3D artworks, and soft furnishings. These works not only demonstrated the learners’ technical skills but also reflected their creative exploration across various mediums.

The Art Bazaar was held alongside the SIAD open day, an annual event that allows parents, guardians, and members of the community to explore the institution's facilities, view learners' projects, and engage directly with academic staff. The event aims to foster meaningful dialogue between parents and lecturers, providing an opportunity to discuss learners’ academic progress, performance, and development.

Turnout for the event was encouraging, with a good number of parents and visitors taking the time to engage with learners and staff, share feedback, and offer valuable suggestions. Their presence and involvement underscored the importance of parental support in the learners’ educational journey.

SIAD firmly believes that exposing learners to public exhibitions and real-world selling opportunitieshelps boost their self-confidence, encourages a sense of pride in their work, and prepares them for future professional experiences. By merging creativity with an element of entrepreneurship, the Art Bazaar empowers learners to see the value of their artistic expression in both cultural and commercial contexts.

As the Art Bazaar continues to grow each year, SIAD remains committed to nurturing the next generation of artists and designers in Seychelles, providing them with platforms to shine and thrive beyond the classroom setting.
