Older adults disproportionately affected by disability, census reveals
More than half of all persons with disabilities in Seychelles are aged 65 and above, according to the latest figures from the 2022 Population and Housing Census.
This was from the recent Functional Thematic Report published by the National Bureau of Statistics. The report identifies age as the strongest predictor of functional limitation, with disability prevalence rising sharply among older cohorts. While just 1.4% of children aged 5–14 reported a disability, that figure climbs to 6.3% among 55–64-year-olds, and more than triples to 21.4% for those aged 65 and over.
