Power supply interruption to Cerf and surrounding islands |16 August 2025

        Efforts ongoing to normalise power

The Public Utilities Corporation said the supply interruption which consumers on Cerf, Ste Anne, Round, Long and Moyenne Islands experienced on Thursday evening was due to a defective pole-mounted distribution transformer located on Cerf Island.

In a communique issued yesterday, the Public Utilities Corporation (PUC) said while electricity supply was restored to other consumers by 12pm on Friday August 15, it will take at least until this evening (Saturday August 16) to complete the replacement of this defective transformer.

“This is due to the logistics involved in transporting the transformer from Mahé to Cerf Island, and then transferring it from the shore to where it needs to be installed, which is further inland. Work is already underway to have the required materials transferred as soon as possible,” read the communique.

In order to install the replacement transformer, it will be necessary to interrupt the electricity supply to Round, Long and Moyenne Islands, from 10am to 6pm today (Saturday 16 August 2025.) Ste Anne Island will experience a half-hour interruption at 10am, and again between 5pm and 6pm, said PUC, which also thanked its consumers for their patience and understanding.
