Ministry of Health condemns incident at Seychelles Hospital Accident and Emergency unit |28 February 2026

On Sunday, February 22, 2026 at approximately 7.45pm, two family groups presented at the Accident and Emergency Unit of Seychelles Hospital following an alleged physical altercation.

The situation within the department became tense due to anti-social and aggressive behaviour. Security personnel on duty intervened promptly, and assistance from the Police Force was requested to restore order and ensure the safety of patients, visitors and staff. Police officers attended the scene and the situation was brought under control.

A total of seven individuals were assessed and treated.

The Ministry of Health strongly condemns any form of violence, aggression, or disorderly conduct within healthcare facilities. Such behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

The ministry will not hesitate to pursue appropriate legal action against individuals who compromise the safety of patients, visitors, or healthcare workers.

The Accident and Emergency Unit is a critical care area where patients require urgent medical attention. Members of the public are therefore urged to act responsibly, respectfully, and in a manner that supports the safe delivery of healthcare services.

The Ministry of Health also takes this opportunity to thank the Seychelles Police Force for its continued support in safeguarding Seychelles Hospital's Accident and Emergency unit.
