Captain Luc Grancourt’s story of August 12,1975 is one which has inspired many people from all walks of life.

He is known for his courageous and brave act of heroism when along with his six crew members, he rescued 15 passengers who were onboard Ero (Hero), the schooner on which he served as captain. Ero left Praslin for its usual daily trips on that day bound for Mahé, but the restless sea of the south east monsoon had other plans. The schooner never made it to its destination, as the depths of the ocean became its resting place.
