Remembering Ephrem Pool, the man who saved Vallée de Mai in 1958

One of the stories that we do not always hear about is the one of Ephrem Pool’s heroism and bravery back on a hot Sunday in 1958, when he saved the Vallée de Mai reserve from a fire.

As we all know, Vallée de Mai, located on the island of Praslin, is one of Seychelles’ greatest wonders and was declared a United Nations Educational Scientific Cultural Organisation (Unesco) World Heritage Site in 1983. It first received national protection eight years after the incident happened, when it was declared a nature reserve by the government then.
