Floating traps drift across oceans – the global footprint of drifting FADs
Fishing vessels around the world use floating rafts known as drifting fish-aggregating devices, or dFADs, to catch tuna. These devices consist of a buoy (often with GPS), a floating raft or framework, and sometimes submerged netting. Tuna and other fish gather beneath or around these objects, making it easier for fleets to scoop them up.
