UN International Anti-Corruption Day, December 9 |09 December 2025
‘Corruption harms everyone – integrity protects us all’
“As Seychelles joins the world in marking the United Nations International Anti-Corruption Day on December 9, the Anti-Corruption Commission Seychelles reaffirms its unwavering commitment to protecting the integrity of our institutions, strengthening public trust, and ensuring that every rupee and every resource destined for the people of Seychelles is used for the public good.
“Since its establishment in 2016, the Anti-Corruption Commission Seychelles (ACCS) has worked tirelessly to bring greater accountability, transparency, and professionalism to the fight against corruption. In 2015, Seychelles had a score of 55/100 and was ranked 40th globally, among 168 countries, on Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index (CPI). In the latest CPI (2024), Seychelles achieved a score of 72/100 – its highest to date and is ranked 18th globally (out of 180 countries).
“Seychelles’ improved position reflects the progress we have made as a nation – progress built on stronger laws, independent investigations, and the courage of citizens who demand honesty in public life.
This past year saw a significant milestone: the successful conviction of a former public officer for embezzlement of public funds and a shopkeeper for bribery, demonstrating that corruption will be pursued at every level and in every corner of society. No act is too small, and no individual is beyond the law. Each investigation and conviction strengthen the message that corruption has no place in Seychelles.
“Our achievements are not the ACCS’s alone. They belong to the people of Seychelles. Your support, your vigilance, and your willingness to speak up form the foundation of national integrity. A united front – across communities, public institutions, businesses, and civil society – is essential if we are to eradicate corruption in all its forms.
Corruption undermines the very things that make Seychelles strong: Education, by diverting opportunities meant for our children; Healthcare, by weakening access to essential services; Environmental protection, by compromising the governance of our natural heritage; and economic fairness, by disadvantaging honest workers and entrepreneurs.
“When we confront corruption, we safeguard these sectors and ensure a just, equitable, and sustainable future. As we recognise International Anti-Corruption Day, the ACCS calls on every Seychellois to continue standing with us. Together, we can build a nation where integrity prevails and where public trust is earned every day.
