Mr Ramkalawan defends actions in Assomption inquiry, denies wrongdoing and rejects ‘witch-hunt’ claims
The Commission of Inquiry into the lease and development of Assomption Island yesterday heard extensive testimony from former President Wavel Ramkalawan, who defended his administration’s handling of the project and strongly rejected allegations of wrongdoing.
Mr Ramkalawan, who served as President from October 2020 to October 2025 under the Linyon Demokratik Seselwa (LDS) government, spent several hours before the commission responding to questions on decision-making processes, environmental approvals, foreign travel, and his interactions with investors linked to the project.
