A walk through Praslin's best-kept secret – Le Ravin de Fond Ferdinand
I thought I knew what to expect while living here on Praslin. The Anse Lazio beach, the Vallée de Mai reserve, the vibrant Côte d'Or, the familiar views, and the warm smiles of the Praslinois people. But my visit to Le Ravin de Fond Ferdinand revealed a completely different side to this home of the coco de mer.
So my dear readers, what if the best view on Praslin is not by the sea at Anse Lazio, but hidden high above, somewhere in an ancient forest? That is exactly what I discovered, and even more than just the picturesque views. Le Ravin de Fond Ferdinand reminded me how often we overlook the treasures in our homeland.
Domestic tourism is not about passing time but about discovering the magic in familiar places and Fond Ferdinand like many call it, is just the perfect example.
I have been on Praslin so many times before and Vallée de Mai was always on my itinerary, as well as going round the island. I have passed through the Anse Marie-Louise road exploring around but I never even knew that there was such a majestic forest nestled there.
In this week’s Travel and Tourism page, I bring you a more personal experience, one that goes beyond the usual sun, sea, and sand.
