National Assembly approves bill to implement TRNUC recommendations

After two days of heated debate, the National Assembly yesterday approved the Commission (for the Enforcement, Implementation and Monitoring of the TRNUC Recommendations) Bill, 2026 (Bill No. 9 of 2026). The legislation establishes an independent statutory commission to oversee, implement, and monitor the final outcomes of the Truth, Reconciliation and National Unity Commission (TRNUC).

The bill, presented by Vice-President Sebastien Pillay on Tuesday, follows President Patrick Herminie’s commitment to create a structure that addresses the TRNUC’s recommendations, provides closure to victims and perpetrators, and enables the country to move forward. It was passed with 17 votes from United Seychelles (US) MNAs, while 13 Linyon Demokratik Seselwa (LDS) MNAs abstained. No votes were cast against the bill.
