Between March and April 2026, Tristan Camille, a ranger based on Aldabra, led a comprehensive drone survey of Assomption Island as part of the Seychelles Islands Foundation’s (SIF’s) ongoing biodiversity assessments.

The primary objective was to map invasive plant species, with particular focus on sisal (Agave sisalana), which can be readily identified from aerial imagery by its distinctive sword-shaped leaves and dense rosette growth. Over several weeks, Tristan systematically surveyed 21 zones across the island, capturing more than 39,000 high-resolution aerial images covering 1,792 hectares!
