STA students explore Russian Knowledge Day traditions

A country studies lesson marking the start of the academic year in Russia was held at the Seychelles Tourism Academy (STA) on September 1. The event, titled ‘Knowledge Day in Russia’, introduced Seychellois students to Russian school traditions while also highlighting the importance of environmental awareness.

During the session, students learned Russian vocabulary related to education, watched a video on Knowledge Day celebrations in Russian schools, and discussed similarities and differences between the start of the academic year in Russia and Seychelles.

The lesson also focused on environmental protection, particularly the impact of balloon use during celebrations. Students viewed a film on environmental awareness and discussed practical steps individuals can take to protect the environment without waiting for administrative decisions. Suggestions included waste sorting, separating organic waste and paper, and reducing reliance on plastic packaging.
