Ambassador‑designate of the Kingdom of Georgia to the Republic of Seychelles, Gia Matcharadze, and High Commissioner‑designate of the Republic of Namibia to the Republic of Seychelles, Nangula F. Ithete, presented their credentials to President Patrick Herminie yesterday afternoon at State House.
Seychelles and Georgia established diplomatic ties in March 2013, and discussions during Ambassador Matcharadze’s accreditation ceremony focused on opportunities to further strengthen relations. President Herminie welcomed the prospect of greater practical cooperation in sport, particularly ahead of the upcoming Indian Ocean Island Games. With Georgia’s strong record in disciplines such as judo, wrestling and weightlifting, these areas were identified as potential starting points for collaboration. Possible initiatives include visits by Georgian coaches to Seychelles and training camps in Georgia for Seychellois athletes.
