Sifco begins work on permanent centre

The Seychelles Interfaith Council (Sifco) took its first physical step towards establishing a permanent centre and office quarters with a site-clearing exercise on Saturday at Île Perseverance I.

Starting at 9am and lasting about an hour, the activity brought together Sifco members, representatives of different faith communities and volunteers to clear vegetation from the site opposite the Family Hospital. Supported by the Seychelles Police, Coast Guard and other partners, the exercise reflected the spirit of cooperation and service that Sifco seeks to promote.

The clearing involved cutting back trees and grass to prepare the ground for the future Sifco House. A blessing was held by Father Eric Leon, and participants planted a ‘Peace Tree’ as a lasting symbol of the council’s values – peace, unity, respect, dialogue, cooperation and community service.
