Every story counts: Lessons in resilience for World Sight Day |08 October 2026
Imagine waking up tomorrow morning, reaching for your phone, and seeing absolutely nothing. No notifications, no messages, just pitch black. For most of us, our eyes are the unfiltered lens through which we consume the world. We strain them under harsh office fluorescent lights, abuse them with late-night screen scrolling, and take their intricate mechanics entirely for granted.
Today, October 8, 2026, the world marks World Sight Day. Spearheaded by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), this day isn’t just a medical milestone – it is a stark, global wake-up call to Love Your Eyes. This year’s theme, ‘Every Story Counts’, shifts the focus away from clinical statistics and data points. Instead, it looks directly at the raw human experience. The Seychelles Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (SABVI) is stepping forward to share the real, unfiltered stories of people who had to reinvent what it means to navigate the world. These aren’t stories designed to elicit your pity; they are masterclasses in human resilience, adaptability, and the fragile nature of the senses we rely on every single day.
