Celebrating Father’s Day |15 June 2019

On this Father’s Day, Seychelles NATION honours all the fathers, grandfathers who do their best to be a role model for their children.

Father's Day is a celebration honouring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds and the influence of fathers in society. In Catholic countries of Europe, it has been celebrated on March 19 (Saint Joseph's Day) since the Middle Ages. This celebration was brought by the Spanish and Portuguese to Latin America, where March 19 is often still used for it, though many countries in Europe and the Americas have adopted the U.S. date, which is the third Sunday of June. It is celebrated on various days in many parts of the world, most commonly in the months of March, April and June according to the home nation's customs. It complements similar celebrations honouring family members, such as Mother's Day, Siblings Day and Grandparents’ Day.

Some fathers shared their views about this special day.

Jerry Souris: “A father being the head of the family is the pillar that sustains and is the provider of everything. Father’s Day represents a moment to reflect on the importance of family values during a period where society continues to move away from that small unit that protects and support each other.

Clifford Legras: “It is a privilege and honour to be a father in this day and age as we try our level best to protect our kids as they navigate through stormy seas. My duty has always been to take care of their spiritual and material development…I cannot be happier today to see them immersed in the sea of the knowledge of God and I supplicate God to watch over them and keep them safe in his impregnable stronghold. On this special day I cannot but pray and thank God that they continue to be models in their lives and draw closer to God.”

Vahid Jacob: “For me being a father means being there for your child at all times and guiding them to take the right path. Basically show them love and support and being a positive role model.”
