Football: Friendly match

Jean Marc Prea (second right) scored Rovers’ third goal

Rovers beat Futuro 3-1

Futuro saw their four-game unbeaten run come to an end as they lost 1-3 against Rovers in a friendly match last week at the Astro-turf pitch, Roche Caïman.

Goals from Santosh Albert, Paolo Hoareau and Jean Marc Prea gave Rovers a comfortable 3-0 lead as Futuro failed to get their second win under boss Steve Herbots, despite pulling a goal back through Joshua Clarisse.

Rovers beat Futuro 7-2 in the previous fixture and showed similar ruthlessness to sweep the academy aside for a third time.

After a furious start, the hosts took the lead with three minutes gone when Santosh Albert received the ball with his back to the goal on the edge of the penalty area and he turned and rifled a low effort beyond the reach of goalkeeper Kidron Ladouceur.

The goal settled Rovers and they doubled their advantage after 19 minutes when Paolo Hoareau curled the ball home from 20 yards after a rapid counter-attack.

The game looked to have been put to bed when Jean Marc Prea headed home a cross three minutes into the second half to give Rovers a 3-0 advantage, but Joshua Clarisse smashed in a deflected effort from 30 yards to get Futuro on the score sheet although Rovers celebrated a 3-1 victory.

“It was an amazing effort by the boys,” said Futuro coach Steve Herbots. “I gave my young players some individual tasks and except for two or three mistakes, we made it very difficult for Rovers to get into their own game. As a coach I'm very proud of what we are realising and this result confirms that we are on the right track on what we want to realise in Seychelles' football.”
