Havilah’s single ‘Mummy Katty’
Singer and songwriter, Havilah Melanie, has released a new single dedicated to his mother, Katty Melanie.
Entitled ‘Mummy Katty’, the inspiration for the song dates back to the day he was born, 26 years ago.
In 1995, well known Seychellois singer Katty Melanie wrote a song dedicated to her first-born child. The song called ‘Havilah’ was well known back then and remains a classic until today. Having always loved and appreciated the song his mother dedicated to him and also sang to him on stage, five years later, Havilah has thus released ‘Mummy Katty’as a direct response to his mother’s song.
“To me the new single reflects the love and gratitude I feel towards my mother for raising me to become a successful man,” said Havilah.
The young artist stated that the song truly represents the relationship between himself and his mother, as he has included words and phrases that are specific to their relationship.
“I am very touched by my son’s gesture towards me. Listening to the lyrics, I know how emotional it must have been for him to compose it,” said Katty.
She mentioned that when Havilah first sang the song to her, they were both overwhelmed with bittersweet feelings.
“I am very happy that after 26 years I finally get my song! I am a proud mother,” she said.
Havilah is not new to the music industry, having been exposed to the art at a young age given that his mother is also a singer/songwriter. At the age of ten, he won the National Day song competition alongside his sister Shakur, with the song ‘Mersi’ written by his mother.
They also released the album ‘Mersi’, the songs on which were also written by Katty. He has also won several other singing competitions, such as the Creole Festival song competition. In 2015, Havilah released another album called ‘En pe letan’, written entirely by himself. He has also released several singles since the release of his album, such as ‘Leker blese’, ‘Ale’, ‘Soungoula Nwel’, ‘Zis akoz ou’, and ‘Ki pe arive’.
Aside from singing, Havilah is also pursuing his ACCA qualification, and he holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance.
