‘I still carry Seychelles with me into every room I walk into’

A proud Seychellois citizen from Bel Ombre, Dr Angelique Pouponneau has built a career that bridges law, diplomacy and ocean governance on the global stage.

At 35, she serves as lead negotiator for Ocean Processes for the Alliance of Small Island States at the United Nations, representing the interests of 39 small island developing states in international forums.

“I still carry Seychelles with me into every room I walk into,” said Angelique, reflecting on the weight and privilege of her role.

“That sense of responsibility is both a privilege and a responsibility.”

Describing herself simply, Dr Pouponneau said she is focused, probably a workaholic, and increasingly striving to be more thoughtful.
