Seychelles, France deepen Indian Ocean partnership
Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, Barry Faure, met with French Foreign Minister, Jean-Noël Barrot, on the margins of the Africa Forward Summit, to reaffirm a partnership that spans centuries.
While 2026 marks 50 years of formal diplomatic relations between the two countries, the bond between France and Seychelles is rooted in a shared history and a common vision for the Indian Ocean.

• Maritime security and climate: Commitment to protecting our shared ‘Blue Heart’ through sustainable maritime governance.
• Regional leadership: A pivotal moment as France prepares to take over the chairmanship of the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) from Comoros next month.
• Cultural heritage: Honouring the deep-rooted historical ties that continue to enrich both nations.
Together, Seychelles and France are charting a course toward a more secure, resilient, and prosperous Indo-Pacific.
