‘Vin pli fit’ Making exercise a pleasing part of your everyday life

Mr Volcère during one of his sessions

Exercising does not have to be boring and repetitive, but should rather be fun and rewarding in terms of health benefits, while it can also improve the social aspects of one’s life through interaction with others.

It has also been scientifically proven that exercising by simply moving your body has immediate, long-lasting and protective benefits for your brain, through positive chemical effect which reduces stress and improves the mood.

While a majority of people are enduring through physical exercises with the prime aim of losing weight, local physical trainer Vincent Volcère has come up with a new concept, targeting the health benefits of exercising, while encouraging people to adopt the activity as a lifestyle, making it a pleasing part of their everyday life.

Through his new concept, baptised ‘Vin pli fit’, Mr Volcère has introduced a combo of activities, including dancing, zumba, kick-boxing and self-defence to catch the attention of the clients, giving them a different perspective of exercising.

It is to note that fitness is more important than weight loss simply because optimal weight does not always mean optimal health, and often, these weight loss and fitness move in unison; as you become fitter, you lose weight, as you gain weight you are likely to become less fit.

However, one can also be fit but classified as overweight, while on the other hand, one can have the appearance of being an appropriate weight and be unfit.

Mr Volcère explained that the foundation of the programme is to primarily educate the clients to focus on the health benefits – both physical and mental – of the programme, rather than setting their mind on weight-loss only.

Based on experience, Mr Volcère said once the mind is set on losing weight and the process delays, or do not happen at all, people tend to get frustrated, adding more stress into their lives, thus defeating the whole health purpose of exercising.

He explained that once adopted as a lifestyle, the different steps, including proper dieting will fall into place and results will eventually be apparent.

Mr Volcère said once someone starts to enjoy exercising, he/she will not constantly focus on his/her body, but will rather take pleasure in the health benefits, such as being stress-free and have more endurance to carry out other physical activities.

He added that he also advises his clients on proper dieting, enabling them to naturally lose weight, with weighing sessions every two weeks.

Improving on the programme, Mr Volcère said he will soon introduce self-defence classes, which again will feature the fitness and health components.

Presently, ‘Vin pli fit’ sessions are taking place at the English River community centre on Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting at 5pm at a fee of R300 per month. Those wishing to enrol only have to visit the venue and talk to Mr Volcère.
