As part of wider efforts to help better manage the Beau Vallon regatta site, the Enterprise Seychelles Agency and relevant stakeholders have partnered to put in place an information board to educate members of the public on the various conditions for operation of businesses and use of the site.

During a meeting with the press at the site yesterday, Enterprise Seychelles Agency (Esa) in collaboration with the police were to give more details on the information board and other initiatives to better manage the site. But no Esa representative turned up for the press meeting.

The police regional commander for north region, Assistant Superintendant (ASP) Marcus Jean, said the new information board means that the police and the other authorities have joined together to reinforce the conditions for use of the car park as well as specify its opening hours.

The board is providing the necessary information to the public and as a result it is expected that people will be more disciplined when using the car park.

ASP Jean said putting up the information board is also expected to address the various complaints they have received from different members of the community and business establishments in the area.

“The complaints are mainly related to loud noises, disorderly parking and other nuisance,” ASP Jean pointed out.

He said the police conducted patrols and have been monitoring the situation for some time and they have taken certain measures including painting double yellow lines.

Another issue is that some dog owners are bringing their dogs out there and they are chasing people.

Drugs are also a problem in the area and business owners have voiced their concerns that narcotics are being distributed or used on the nearby beach.

ASP Jean said some vendors are also bringing their dogs and leashing them to their kiosk, tent or tables. He stated that this causes a lot of nuisance to the public and the police are informing these people that serious action will be taken against them if anyone is bitten by their pets.

In regards to various car parks closing in and around town area and people are complaining about a lack of entertainment, ASP Jean emphasised that they are not against entertainment but rather they are concerned about people’s behaviour especially after high consumption of alcohol.

He is launching an appeal to the public to respect their community and to respect the laws in place.

To the noise polluters, ASP Jean said there are measures in place which if not followed offenders can be prosecuted even if they try to lower their music when police officers approach them on site.
