Disaster victim Hyacinthe Napoleon laid to rest |19 December 2023

Hyacinthe Napoleon, 71, the last victim of the heavy storm in the northern region on December 6 that led to flooding and landslide, was laid to rest yesterday.
Relatives and friends of the late Mrs Napoleon gathered at St Luke’s Anglican Church in Bel Ombre yesterday afternoon to pay their respect.
The over two-hour service was presided by Reverend Wavel Ramkalawan.
Mrs Napoleon born Duval was reported missing at around 11pm on December 6, after her house was washed away during heavy rain. Her body was found the following day in a river in Bel Ombre.
According to the police, she was with her husband at the time of the incident. Despite attempts to save her, he was unable to hold on to her.
Mrs Napoleon was among two other persons who died on that day. The other two, Dorothy Lafortune and Hakeem Antoine, were laid to rest on Saturday, along with Dorothy’s sister, Wahida Payet, who died on December 7 from severe shock upon learning of the death of Dorothy and Hakeem.
