Sri Lankan President appreciates Seychelles’ solidarity and support
The President of Sri Lanka, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, has publicly expressed his gratitude to Seychelles’ Head of State, Dr Patrick Hermine, for his thoughtful message of solidarity amid recent severe weather events that affected Sri Lanka.
In a statement shared on his official social media profiles, President Dissanayake highlighted the importance of Seychelles' support during this challenging period. “Our sincere thanks to H.E. Dr Patrick Hermine, President of Seychelles, for his thoughtful message of solidarity following the recent adverse weather in Sri Lanka,” the post read. “His support has been a tremendous source of strength for our affected communities.”
The recent adverse weather, marked by heavy rains and flooding, caused widespread damage across Sri Lanka, displacing families and disrupting essential services. In response, Sri Lanka launched extensive search and rescue operations, supported by international partners, to assist those in need.
The statement further noted that, with the generous assistance of the global community, Sri Lanka has successfully completed rescue efforts and has now commenced a comprehensive recovery process. This includes resettlement, relocation, and rebuilding initiatives under the ‘Rebuilding Sri Lanka’ Fund. These efforts aim to restore stability and rebuild communities impacted by the disaster.
President Dissanayake emphasised the significance of regional solidarity, stating, “With the gracious support of our international partners, we have begun the process of rebuilding through the ‘Rebuilding Sri Lanka’ Fund. We are grateful for Seychelles’ solidarity during this critical moment.”
“This support exemplifies the true spirit of regional friendship and compassion. Together, we can overcome these challenges and build a resilient future for our people,” he added.
The gesture from Seychelles highlights the strong bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
