Thrilling Senior, K-Legends battles launch new chapter of karting season
Champions Park Raceway came alive on Sunday March 22 as Autosport Seychelles hosted the opening round of the 2026 Seychelles Karting National Championship for the 4-T Seniors and K-Legends categories. With full grids and a revised race format, spectators were treated to an action-packed day of competition marked by intense duels, strategic driving, and dramatic late-race developments.
In the newly formed 4-T Seniors category bringing together last season’s Clubman and Extreme competitors eight drivers lined up to test their skills in a demanding two-heat and final format. For many participants, it was their first experience racing under this structure, adding an extra layer of challenge and unpredictability.
The opening heats delivered closely contested battles throughout the field, with drivers such as Mitra Labrosse, Cedric Ah-Time, Keanu Teeroomooljee, Adam Ally, Marlon Talma, Warwick Clarke, Jhohan Cadeau, Brandon Peens and Lecxus Liu Chit Chion pushing hard to establish early championship momentum. Officials were kept busy as positions changed frequently and racing margins remained tight.
The final proved to be the highlight of the day. Labrosse and Ah-Time engaged in a gripping duel at the front, with both drivers demonstrating pace and composure under pressure. Behind them, another pack formed, featuring Keanu Teeroomooljee, Adam Ally and Marlon Talma in a fierce pursuit for podium positions.
Post-race penalties significantly reshaped the results. Ah-Time was disqualified for a technical infringement, while time penalties were issued for start procedure violations. Although Labrosse’s penalty did not affect her winning position, Teeroomooljee’s sanction dropped him one place, promoting Ally to second overall. Labrosse therefore emerged as the round one winner, collecting maximum championship points, with Ally second and Teeroomooljee completing the podium.
In the K-Legends category, eight experienced drivers lined up in what has become one of the most popular and closely contested classes in local karting. Veterans Dan Denis, Martin Chetty, George Delcy and Peter Fred were joined by Ronny Nicette, Sandy Benoiton, Leo Padayachy and Achilles Maria, blending experience with emerging talent.
The final race provided classic Legends drama. Fred led from the start. An early spin for Denis at the hairpin reshaped the running order, allowing Chetty to establish control in second place. Maria capitalised on the situation to move into podium contention, while Nicette came under sustained pressure from Denis in the closing laps.
Fred ultimately secured victory, demonstrating consistency and strategic race management throughout the day. Chetty followed in second, with Maria completing the podium after an impressive debut performance in the category. Delcy led the midfield fight to finish sixth, ahead of Benoiton and Padayachy.
The opening round highlighted the competitive strength of both categories and underscored the growing depth of motorsport talent in Seychelles. With championship battles already taking shape, attention now turns to the next race weekend.
The 2026 championship continues on Sunday March 28, when the Honda Cadets return to Champions Park Raceway from 2pm to launch their round two campaign. Autosport Seychelles has invited members of the public to attend and support the country’s developing motorsport scene as the season gathers momentum.
