Former Deputy Commissioner testifies
Francis Songoire, former Deputy Commissioner of Police, was the sole witness to testify yesterday before the Commission of Inquiry into the Montagne Posée prison riot of December 5, 2024.
Mr Songoire explained that he was informed of the incident around 5pm through the police command centre, with officers already deployed to the scene. Without contacting anyone, he travelled alone to the prison, arriving shortly after 6pm. There, he met briefly with Commissioner of Police Janet Georges and her deputy before joining a main meeting attended by Assistant Police Commissioners Ned Wirtz and Antoine Denousse, and Chief Superintendent Jemmy Bouzin. They were later joined by Colonel Michael Hollanda, Chief of Staff of the Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF), forming the commanding team. Mr Songoire stated that he did not know who had requested military involvement.
