Assembly members, staff join deep-sea research session
On Wednesday, August 5, 2026, honourable members and Parliamentary Service staff took part in an awareness session on ‘Deep-Sea Research and Pathways to Advancing Deep-Sea Priorities’.
The session aimed to encourage participants to explore Parliament’s role in supporting the sustainable management and governance of Seychelles’ deep-sea territory, while also familiarising them with ongoing research conducted for the benefit of communities.
The session opened with remarks by Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Azarel Ernesta, followed by observations on Marine Spatial Planning priorities from Rabia Sommers. Their interventions underscored the importance of strengthening links between scientific research, policymaking and long-term national development objectives.
