Police witnesses recount injuries, trauma

The CCCL Commission of Inquiry has heard testimony from two police officers who were on duty during the December 7, 2023 incident, both describing the injuries they sustained and the lasting physical and emotional impact the blast has had on their lives.

Inspector Nadine Atala

Inspector Nadine Atala, attached to the Public Order and Tactical Response Unit (PORTU) at the time, told the Commission she was working her first night shift with the Response Service and serving as shift supervisor when the incident occurred.

Working alongside her was Driver Corporal Pierre Adelaide and other officers on duty. Inspector Atala said she had accompanied contractors carrying out blasting work outside the CCCL site but clarified that she had not been involved in the transportation or collection of explosives there since around 2011 or 2012.
