UN tells the world: Stop making Africa look small
The United Nations General Assembly has overwhelmingly endorsed a resolution encouraging the use of world maps that more accurately show the relative size of continents.
The resolution, supported by 164 votes to one, was backed by an African-led campaign challenging the continued dominance of the 16th-century Mercator projection. The United States was the only country to vote against, while Estonia, Georgia, Lithuania, Moldova, Serbia and Ukraine abstained.
