MIOT offers free neurology and spine consultation camp |18 March 2020

MIOT International, in association with Jivan’s Clinic, is conducting a free consultation camp from March 17 – 20, 2020.

This camp is designed to bring peace of mind to those with neurological and spinal disorders.

Dr Shankar Balakrishnan, interventional neurologist from MIOT, will be available at Dr Jivan’s Clinic, Mont Fleuri, to provide free consultation. Yesterday, they examined 80 patients at the consultation camp, with over 350 others set to visit during the next four days.

Even at the time of such a worldwide crisis, MIOT extends its care across boundaries standing shoulder to shoulder with the people of Seychelles.

Neurological & spinal disorders

Everything that we choose to do (like walk and talk) and our senses (like vision, touch, taste and memory) are controlled by the brain and spine. Together, they form the central nervous system. So naturally, any damage to the brain or spine (or both) can lead to epilepsy, dystonia or Parkinson’s disease, among other disorders, which can be very destabilising.

As with other conditions, getting the right diagnosis at the right time will prevent the neurological/spinal disorder from worsening.

Common symptoms:

Epilepsy | Numbness | Tremors | Neck / Back pain | Dizziness | Difficulty in walking | Soft / Slurred speech | Breathing difficulty | Loss of movement | Loss of bowel / bladder control | Loss of sensation in hands / feet | Slow or no swinging of arms while walking | Little or no expression on face
