“As a Seychellois, I will always contribute towards the industrial development of my country, especially the tourism industry which is the number one pillar of our economy,” former tourism minister Alain St Ange has said.

He was speaking yesterday following a courtesy call on President Wavel Ramkalawan at State House where the discussion focussed on the tourism industry.

Back in the country last week, the former Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine minister spent the past eight weeks in Indonesia where he was assigned to spearhead the promotion of tourism between the African Union and its member states and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

His main task was to boost the development of tourism for Indonesia and to assist with the challenging navigation of rebuilding tourism during the global pandemic, as well as post Covid-19.

Mr St Ange said the head of state picked his brain regarding new tourism strategies and development plans, as well as strategies to re-launch the industry.

He added that despite reaching retirement age, as a citizen of Seychelles, he is always ready to lend a hand and bring his contribution towards the industrial development of the country.

They also talked about Mr St Ange’s latest achievement which is to make the list of a book on the Global Travel and Tourism Icons.

The coffee table book has been launched by the Pacific Area Travel Writers Association.

Mr St Ange said he is honoured to be recognised for his work in the field of tourism and to have been listed alongside fifty tourism leaders from across the world.

He added that it is good for Seychelles to see one of its own to be recognised especially as our islands depend on tourism for its economy.
