657 active cases with continuous downward trend

In its latest update yesterday,Thursday July 29, the Ministry of Health shared that there are currently 657 active cases of Covid-19 in Seychelles.

Out of the 18,189cumulative cases, 17,538 have recovered. Sadly the death toll has increased to 94. There were four Covid-19 related deaths this past week and they were aged between 71 and 88 years.

The seven-day average shows the downward trend continues gradually but the level of community transmission remains above the pre-surge level. There is also a reduction in the number of admissions to treatment facilities and the current occupancy is about 25%.

Public Health Commissioner, DrJude Gédéon noted that “the downward trend represents the effectiveness of the restrictive measures put in place.”

“It is important for us to keep being vigilant as we are susceptible to get new variants and also our children are not yet vaccinated. We are also pleased to see that our two main Covid-19 hospitals – the Family Hospital and the new coast guard facility are at 25% occupancy rate. We are urging the population to keep adhering to the health measures in place and to keep maintaining personal hygiene,” said Dr Gédéon.

The Ministry of Health is reminding people to wear face masks properly at all times, to washtheir hands regularly, to keep social distance as much as possible, to take the vaccines and stay home to protect themselves and others from the virus.

Remember if you are having any symptom, report to one of the health facilities to get tested!
