Alphonse and Desroches hotels change hands |02 September 2004
According to a press release received from the Ministry of Land Use and Habitat late Wednesday September 1 (afternoon), the agreement follows negotiations held between both Desroches Island Lodge and Alphonse Resorts Development, the parastatal Islands Development Company (IDC) and MK Resorts Seychelles “on optimisation of economic benefits through harmonisation of operations and further investments in these two tourism establishments.”
MK Resorts Seychelles currently operates a five-star, 120-room resort hotel in the Maldives.
The company also is developing a five-star hotel on Platte Island in the Seychelles, which is presently at the planning stage.
According to the press release, MK Resorts Seychelles plans to carry out substantial investments in the Desroches and Alphonse resorts by adding more rooms and further enhancing the product. Desroches and Alphonse currently have 20 and 30 rooms, respectively.
Desroches Island Lodge and Alphonse Resorts Development currently hold a 60-year lease of 16 and 20 hectares of land on Desroches and Alphonse, or about 4 and 10 percent of the land area of the islands, respectively.
The lease was negotiated by the government through IDC.
